The Roundabout features a quick and easy installation with either LATCH or traditional seatbelts. (Tan Swirl color shown.) View larger. |
Quick and Easy Installation
Easy to install correctly, regardless of whether your vehicle is LATCH compatible or not, the Roundabout takes the guesswork out of installation so you know your child is safely positioned on every trip. The Roundabout features a tangle-free, five-point harness made with rough and tough polyester webbing to resist wear and tear. The push-button LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) connectors help tightly secure your child quickly and easily so you won’t have to worry about struggling with endless straps and complicated procedures, and convenient belt holders keep the harness to the side so you can place the child in the seat. Additionally, the harness offers three adjustable shoulder height positions for a snug fit over the shoulders, collarbone, and hips.
Finally, the Roundabout provides built-in lock-off clips that keep the seat tightly in place when using only traditional seatbelts at installation. A simple handle pull allows the car seat base to be easily reclined when rear-facing, and the one-pull harness strap adjuster makes for a quick, easy, and secure fit every time.
HUGS for Optimum Safety and Support
When it comes to safety, the Roundabout truly delivers. First, the patented floating HUGS (Harness Ultra Guard) system exceeds U.S. safety standards by reducing forward head movement as it gently cushions the neck and chest with soft padding–a feature that’s particularly important both in the case of an accident and during nap time. Made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and extra thick comfort foam, this system better distributes the webbing loads, reducing head movement and minimizing harness irritation on baby’s neck in case of impact. HUGS also reduces the chance of improperly positioning the chest clip.
Versa-Tether for Additional Security
The Roundabout also offers Britax’s patented Versa-Tether, an anchor aid that provides additional security in the forward facing position for children weighing more than 50 pounds. The Versa-Tether fastens the top of the car seat to factory-installed automobile anchor points, minimizing the possibility of a head injury in the event of impact.
Weighing only 14 pounds when empty, and measuring 18.25 x 25 x 23.5 inches (WxHxD), the Roundabout is incredibly comfortable. For added convenience, it is certified for air travel. The Roundabout comes with a limited 1-year limited warranty.
The Roundabout is also available in the following colors: Granite, Cowmooflage, New Denim, Tan Swirl, and Jessica.

5 Stars I received the car seat very quickly and my granddaughter is enjoying it very much. She is comfortable and it is easy to get her in and out.
5 Stars Britax Roundabout Convertible Car Seat OnyxThe tan swirl color is best. Very comfortable cushion support all around. It’s a couple of inches shorter at the top compared to another Britax model my son has in his car. The only thing that Britax didn’t include in this model (which was included in my son’s model) are cushion shoulder straps that slide along the shoulder harness. Without the cushion shoulder straps sliders, the straps tend to rub against the child’s shoulder causing friction on the child’s skin. A great feature in this model which is very helpful are the 2 inches of velcro strips attached to the straps and arm rest to hold in place so its much easier to seat the child.
5 Stars I recently purchased this seat for my 2nd born. I’ve been through quite a bit of infant seats and convertable car seats…this one is BY FAR the best we’ve ever owned! It’s padded and so comfortable and soft. I also love the placement of the seat belt on the leg part…usually (the other seats we’ve used) the seat belt tends to cut into legs or even twist around, these don’t. Today while we were out, my husband told me “I love this seat!” which he never usually “loves” car seats.
I loved it so much that I ordered another for my husband’s vehicle. Just at the right time too with this $50 off promotion going on!
4 Stars This is a great car seat for our second car. I only wish it had strap protectors that come on some of the other models. I just bought some from the store and put them on. It works just a well.
5 Stars I love to read reviews on car seats before I buy one and this is the first review I’ve ever writen. Just 5 days ago me and my just turned 2 year old son was hit on the driver side (his door)of my trailblazer while making a turn. We were hit at 40-50 mph. Luckly, for us he sits in the middle of the seat. Other then being scared, my son didnt have a scratch or bruse on him. Wish the same was true for me. All i can say is this car seat did its job. He is safe. Well worth the money for that reason alone.
Because we were in a wreck it’s suggested we get a new car set. Looking into a bigger one, since he’ll out grow it in a year or so. But I would buy it again if not for that reason. Will stick to the Britax brand. Can’t put a price on the safety of my childs life.
4 Stars Overall I like the carseat. My only issue with it is that it dosn’t come with shoulder gards. My son wound up getting getting hurt on the straps. It gave him a “rugburn” type mark. I had to go out and purchace a pair. You would think that spending this much money on a seat that it would come with something so vital and simple as this.
5 Stars Great car seat. It’s comfortable and easy to use and so cool. I mean, cow print! It’s much nicer than all the nondescript gray, black or tan car seats out there. Do children car seats have to look like an ugly sedan? Not this one.
5 Stars This car seat works great. I have to say though the one we purchased was on sale at the time and it sure isn’t pretty. I guess I’m used to my beautiful red Chicco seat and this ugly, gray beast doesn’t compare in the aesthetic department. I did add some nice Curious George strap covers to make them a bit more comfortable and it did brighten up this monster a bit. Really, it’s so far so good and my daughter really seems comfortable.
5 Stars We purchased this car seat a couple months ago. It is very easy to use and I appreciate the comfort and durability it has.
5 Stars So far, this product has worked out perfectly for us. It came highly recommended from my sister and was easy to install. It was delivered promptly.
1 Stars This seat is visually attractive but the pros end there. The instructions that come with the seat are simply terrible. The illustrated pictures that are supposed to help clarify how to install the seat are too small to provide any useful information (i.e., they are about 1″ by 1″). Moreover, unlike other car seats that provide a means for determining if the chair is at an appropriate angle (e.g., our Chicco seat has a built-in bubble level; Graco seats have a built-in bubble level as well), this chair requires you to “eye-ball” if it is at the appropriate 30- to 45-degree angle. Personally, I don’t like having to place my son’s life in my ability to visually judge an angle. Furthermore, the instructions repeatedly cross-reference other pages in the manual. Thus, as you are reading the relevant installation instructions on page 18 you are then sent to page 30; you then go back to page 18 and a few steps later you are sent to another page. It is simply aggravating. Moreover, when you go to the Britax website it is exceptionally difficult to find the information you need (e.g., you have to find the manufacture date of you chair to be able to get the link for the how-to videos on YouTube). Unfortunately, these videos have close to the same level of detail as the 1″ by 1″ photos in the manual. Finally, this chair just feels flimsy. Thus, overall, I will not trust my son’s safety to people who lack the ability to provide an clarity regarding their product’s use. That is a major part of their business and if they cannot do that well I worry about what else they cannot do well.
4 Stars This car seat just fits in my 2002 Honda Civic Si. I can’t imagine how a “regular” car seat could ever fit in this car. If you have a Honda Civic (or similar sub-compact), this car seat from Britax is the only choice for your vehicle.
Cons? Of course. My daughter is about 15 lbs. and has much less support in this seat compared to the one that came with our Chicco travel system. This seat is rated for newborns but I would never put my newborn in it. The other issue I have is how the base digs into the upholstery. After it was installed for a week I had deep impressions in my back seat. You might want to consider a car seat saver from Prince Lionheart. That’s what I did.
3 Stars Check out Consumer Reports’ review of car seats, and you will see several seats rated both as safe and as easy to use as the Britax. But instead of paying $200 or more, you can pay $50-100. Those car seats are just as attractive, too.
Furthermore, of the three car seats we own, the Britax is by far the easiest for a toddler to unbuckle on his or her own. I actually prefer to use the other ones, which are a little harder for a toddler to open.
5 Stars i have this car seat for my 3 year old daughter and a britax boulevard for my 18 month old son. i already thought they were great car seats, but i was unfortunately able to test their limits in a car accident. my car slid, hit a utility pole (on my daughter’s side) and flipped over onto its top. all three of us were hanging upside down. not only are my children fine–just a few bruises from the straps–but both car seats were completely intact. i am back now to order new car seats (they recommend you not use seats that have been in an accident, no matter their condition) and there is no way i would ever buy anything else. these seats are worth their weight in gold. if you can afford it, BUY IT!
5 Stars This car seat is amazing. I also have a Recaro, which I bought because it would last so long, but I think the Roundabout will meet our needs for a long time, too. My son is 7 almost 8 months, and pushing 25 lbs. I was worried that he’d outgrow a smaller seat, but I don’t think that’s the case, after all. He is MUCH more comfortable in the Britax, and he can actually take a bottle in the seat and take comfortable naps. The Recaro sits a bit too upright for either of those activities, unless you use some kind of towel or noodle to adjust it. I don’t like the idea of pool toys involved in propping up my baby’s car seat. I do like the Recaro in my Mom’s SUV (Grandma loves having a car seat, and it is a nice one) but I prefer the Britax in my Subaru for ease of getting in and out, room left in the backseat, and baby’s overall comfort, especially for longer trips. I don’t feel like I sacrificed quality by buying the cheaper model (as opposed to the Marathon), it’s our best car seat yet.
5 Stars We bought this car seat for my 6 month old daughter. She LOVES it. It is very comfortable. The print is adorable and the fabric is very soft. The seat is versatile in that is reclines and sits straight. She loves taking car rides and is perfectly content in her new seat. I was a little concerned that Britax seats are known to be a little on the larger side. We have an Xterra and it fits just perfect. Easy to install and easy to clean with the removable/washable cover. I would totally recomend this carseat to others.
5 Stars We’ve used this car seat from birth. My daughter is 24 lbs and 21 months, and we still have her rear-facing. There are numerous studies in the Injury Prevention Journal indicating this is the safest position for her.
We had the seat professional installed and it worked perfect for our almost 8 lbs newborn daughter. She left the hospital in this seat, and we’ve been 100% pleased.
I’ve washed the cover twice in a year and a half. I washed it on cold and hung it to dry. It is easy to take on and put off. I’ve installed the seat in several other cars due to traveling and it couldn’t be easier. I know it’s safe. It’s obvious she’s comfortable as she doesn’t fuss when we put her in it.
I felt compelled to write this review because I saw someone else said you couldn’t use it for a newborn. YES, you can. It’s rated as such and it worked great.
5 Stars The reason I purchased this seat was easy, we have one and loved it and we needed another for our other vehicle. Thank you, Ben Creske
5 Stars I have a 8 month old who has outgorn her carrier. She seems to really like her new Britax car seat…she is very comfortable! We bought two for ourselves and one for her grandparents!
2 Stars Decent seat, but I should have bought the Marathon! My kid is tall, so I had to turn him forward at 18 mos because his head was over the shell. (AAP guidelines say keep your kid rear-facing till 2 years – do some research and you will be saddened at what the “authorities” suggest by turning your kid at 1yr/20lbs) Now, he’s almost 2 and the shoulder straps are at the highest setting. I anticipate he will outgrow the seat in the next 6 months or less. Had I spent the extra $50 on the Marathon it would have lasted him two more years. The straps are not padded and get twisted quite easily. If your kid is a peanut, then this might work out for you, but if you have an average to large kid GET THE MARATHON!!!
5 Stars My little guy was getting too long for his infant carrier and would fuss every time I put him in it. Now he has a smile on his face when he gets in his Britax Roundabout seat (the musical mirror helps too)! I drive a sedan (Nissan Maxima) and was frustrated that I couldn’t use his infant carrier with the LATCH system in my car because it was too big and had to go in the middle of the back seat. We also had to use pool noodles to get the base level and I was constantly having to readjust. I didn’t have any of these problems with the Britax Roundabout. It fits great in my car and is easy to install using the LATCH system. Seems very comfy for my little guy and I love the velcro tabs to keep the straps in place when getting him in and out of the seat. This car seat is definitely worth the investment.
5 Stars It sits higher than most car seats so it’s easier to strap the kids in. I have three car seats in the back seat of my car and it fits nicely. The seat also has velcro that attaches to the straps so when you unbuckle the seat and take your child out the straps stay open. This is great for when you are putting a sleeping baby in the car and don’t have an extra hand to open the straps. When my youngest grows out of the infant seat, I’ll definitely get another one!
5 Stars I’ve only had this car seat for a couple of weeks, but I like the long easy to move and buckle straps. The car seat material is nice. My child seems comfortable in it and doesn’t have his head fall too far to the side when he falls asleep in it. It was easy to install (although I haven’t used the additional tethers). I guess what would have been better is if it was rated for a larger child so it would last us longer but you get what you pay for and I don’t think a booster seat will cost that much more later.
4 Stars The velcro patches on the sides of the seat have nasty, sharp corners that scratch little baby arms. Other than that, it has been a great seat
5 Stars [...] I see a ton of baby gear come and go. This car seat is a keeper! Not only is seat super comfy with thick padding, but it had excellent reviews on Consumer Reports. So safe, so comfy. You can’t bet it.

5 Stars We love our new carseat. I have a smaller car (WV Jetta) and it is a good fit in the backseat. My 11 month old really likes it too. I love the LATCH system and feel it is much safer. Read the reviews. It is the best car seat out there. Buy one today!
5 Stars We’re so happy with this carseat! It is way easy to install. We have an Eddie Bauer for our 3 year old and bought this seat for our 10 month old. The Britax is just all around BETTER! Now I want to get our 3 year old a new car seat. Great product, definitely worth the price!
4 Stars I purchased this car seat about a month ago for my now 8 month old daughter who weighs approx. 21 pounds and I think is about 27 1/2 inches tall. She was in the Graco Safeseat but was getting too heavy to lug around (I am a petite 5′ 2″). Also, I drive a Honda Element, and because of the way my car is designed it was very difficult to get her infant carrier in and out without hurting myself.
I will cover the things I like about this seat first:
First of all, I got this car seat in the mail the DAY AFTER I ordered it, which of course is extremely fast (not to mention I think I ordered it in the evening)! The seat is cushy with nice padding, and has a nice padded flap that goes between the seat buckle and baby’s legs- a nice addition that keeps the hot buckle in a summer-toasty car from burning little one’s legs, a concern for moms with little girls in dresses. There are velcro patches on either side of the seat for the straps to stick to so they stay out of your way while getting baby in or out, also a nice convenience. The seat was SO easy to install, it took seconds; we have had to take it in and out several times with no problem at all.
What I don’t like about this seat is:
The seat itself (where baby’s bottom is) seems a little shallow, or short, and I am concerned about how long my daughter will fit in it. It seems like her tush does not have much room to grow because there is little space between the seat belt buckle and the back of the seat. Along the same lines, my daughter’s chunky legs seem a little squeezed by the straps, and I have to play with them a bit to make sure she is not getting pinched. It seems to fit okay, but I feel like I need to check, double-check, and tug at the straps a little around her legs before I am convinced she is comfortable. The straps also DO seem to twist easily. I read many reviews that said they do not get twisted, but I am finding that I have to untwist them nearly every time I put my daughter in it. For me, compared with her infant carrier (which the straps never twisted on me once), they do this a lot. As I said before, I drive a Honda Element. It is very awkward to use a car seat with my car, and this is not the car seat’s fault at all. However, with the seat installed, I can hardly see out of the back passenger windows when I am changing lanes, backing up, etc. (because of the way the car is made, I have to put the seat on the rear passenger side seat, it is impossible to get a rear-facing child in and out of the seat on the driver’s side without climbing into the car from the other side) I didn’t think the seat was very big as far as what is available, so this surprised me a little. However, I am confident this is just an issue with my car, not the seat. This last problem is really just a warning to other Element drivers- we are now shopping for a different car because of the incredible pain it is.
So in conclusion, great seat overall, but maybe think twice or test one in the store first if you have a chunky baby like I do, and just don’t have a baby if you drive an element
2 Stars We bought this seat in part based on its positive reviews. However, we were disappointed to find that it was impossible to make the seat work in the rear facing position in our car (2008 Jeep Liberty). Not difficult mind you – impossible. Particularly frustrating was that the installation videos at the Britax web site show a seat with features ours does not have (the straps in the video use some sort of rail system to increase leverage – totally absent out our version). We did get the seat to work in the forward facing position, however it is a great mystery how one would ever actually use the recline function once the seat is installed. A seat with room to recline would be too loose. So after much aggravation we now have a forward facing seat with a useless recline feature. For a while we were wondering if we had a knockoff of some kind. Very disappointing.
5 Stars Cute product. Comfortable for baby. Can be used from 5 lbs. to 40 lbs. I also own a Britax Marathon which can be used from 5 lbs. up to 65 lbs. At times I do question whether or not I should have just bought 2 Marathons since they can be used for children all the way up to 65 lbs. HOWEVER, the Roundabout is definitely good for those who have small cars! And by the time my child is 40 lbs I will probably be ready for a safety seat change anyway with all the nugget mess it acquires!
5 Stars We love the Britax Roundabout so much we bought two of them. Grandma bought another model and now wishes she bought a Roundabout as well. We highly recommend a Britax Roundabout. It is safe, easy to use, and stylish.
5 Stars I was unsure whether to get a seat that went up to 65 pounds when my son turned one, but my friends advised me to get this Roundabout. Then when he grows out of it he can just get a booster seat which is much easier to move to other cars when he is not riding with me. I love it and have had it 1 month now. It is very spacious and looks really nice. It has been very easy to deal with also.
I own a 4 door Camry and it is somewhat hard to fit my son into the seat since the ceiling is so low, but I don’t mind that. I love the onyx design too.
5 Stars Fantastic car seat. We’ve had this since my son was 6 months old, turning it around to face front after he turned 1. Still looks like new at 2 1/2, and fits my small SUV easily in any of the 3 available back-seat positions. My son is protected and comfortable and I find it easy to get him in and out of. Considered Britax’s middle-of-the-road model as far as safety and price, I opted for it over the larger models for fit and daily usability.
5 Stars My granddaughter just turned 1 year old and I started using the car seat this past week. It’s confortable and easy to use. Baby seems very happy in it. The material is soft and it also looks great in my sports car!
5 Stars I have owned the Britax Marathon, Cosco Alpha Omega Elite and now the Britax Roundabout in the last 2 years. Even though the Britax carseats cost more they are absolutely worth it! I would rather have one Britax than 2 of the Coscos. With the ease that you can clip them in and out of cars using LATCH you really only need one car seat to move between your rides. Plus, my kids consistently slump forward when falling asleep in the Cosco. They are much more comfortable for longer periods in the Britax seats.
Compared to the Marathon I actually like the Roundabout better. The front belt adjustment button is much more accessible than in my Marathon and the Roundabout is just a little more compact which makes fitting it in the car easier. I love it!
5 Stars This car seat is perfect for a toddler and especially for owners of small or compact cars. I have a VW beetle and it fits in there great with leg room for my little one. And there are plenty of installation options for all car types, whether you have the LATCH system or not. This car seat is worth every penny.
5 Stars We purchased this car seat because we are expecting our second baby and needed an additional seat for him. I decided to go ahead and put the new Britax seat in my car (where my 2 year old rides most frequently) to replace the Graco Comfort Sport we had been using for the past year or so. I had always found the straps on the Graco to be annoying; one would end up a lot longer than the other and it was very hard to adjust. I had also read recently that the Britax gets top safety ratings so I figured it would be a better bet. We are very happy with the Britax so far. I’ve had no problems with the straps and I can tell that there is more side impact protection than in the Graco. Plus, it seems to sit a little higher so my son can see more out the window, which he enjoys. All in all, we are very happy with this purchase, especially since we were able to purchase it while it was on sale.
5 Stars Very satisfied with this car seat. I did a lot of research and found this to be top rated. It fits wonderfully in our car and our son had not trouble transitioning to this car seat.
5 Stars Easy to install – I did it with both the latch and with a seat belt, took less than five minutes for each. Comfortable for baby with good amount of padding, much better than our infant carrier. Straps are easily adjustable, another pleasant surprise after using the difficult infant carrier. My only complaints are the instruction manual can be difficult to interpret and the tether takes some getting used to. Otherwise an excellent car seat, I would recommend it.
5 Stars Good quality product, with thoughtful design (such as velcro to hold the straps open so you can put the child in). My 7 month old daughter seems very comfortable in this seat.
5 Stars My 15 month old loves this seat. We had one for my car and then bought a second for my wife’s. My daughter just melts into it every time we put her in it. It’s very easy for her to fall asleep in it. The directions are tethered near the front so it’s easy to install it into different cars. We only use the LATCH so I can’t say how easy it is to use with belts. We haven’t used it front facing yet, either. We tried a cheaper $100 Evenflo in my wife’s car but the baby obviously wasn’t as comfortable as she is in the Roundabout.
4 Stars The seat is great. It works well for our little one and holds up well against stains. The price was great too. We bought it for $175.
5 Stars I love this car seat. I purchased it for my 6 month old who was quickly outgrowing his infant seat. The roundabout is very cushiony and keeps my son’s head from bobbing forward when he falls asleep. Was very easy to install and seems secure. I love the velco on the sides of the seat to help with the straps. I have a small SUV and this seat seems to take up less room than the infant carrier.
5 Stars We love, love, love Britax carseats. We have purchased 4 so far and are getting ready to purchase another for the babysitter. We have purchased another brand and had to return it because we couldn’t get it as secure in the car as we could the Britax seats. They are so easy to install, which ensures that it is in correctly, which is the most important part. Easy to clean and our daughter seems so comforable in it. We have taken 2 road trips which were 8 hours one way. She did so well!! It’s worth the higher price, we will never purchase another brand. We are planning to use the Britax “bucket” car seat for our next baby.
4 Stars Just yesterday, my husband declared, “I LOVE this carseat!” Getting our 14 mos. old in and out of it is so incredibly easy and we love the simple button to release/loosen the straps. Our daughter also appears to be very comfortable and likes the “new view” facing forward.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because it was challenging for me to install and even though my husband got it in there pretty well, it still seems too upright and its base doesn’t sit completely level on our car’s seat without really digging into the seat. Although the carseat has an angle option, if your own car seat back doesn’t slope back enough, you can’t utilize it. I still recommend it, though – it’s just a change to get used to from the nice reclined position of the rear-facing infant seat our daughter used to get comfy in and easily fall asleep in.
5 Stars I Have Owned And Used Two Britax Car Seats Since My Children Have Been Born They Are By Far The Easiest Car Seats To Use. My Children Love These Seats, The Velcro On The Sides Make Sure There Is No Tangling In The Straps Wonderful. The Couching Of The Seat Make It Cumffy For My Kids. The Buckle Is Further Up The Seat So I Don’t Have To Big Underneath My Kid To Buckle Them In. All Around 110% Worth Every Penny And Easy To Use.
5 Stars My daughter has been in her Britax Roundabout for 2 1/2 years, and we couldn’t be happier – Mom, Dad and daughter! We are in the process of researching the next car set so we can pass down the Roundabout to her brother (she’s pushing the weight limit anyway), and we can’t find anything on the market that comes close to comparing … everything is a compromise from here on out.
Pros of this seat:
- Very comfortable! My daughter is comfortable during short rides and can also fall asleep with a slight recline during longer trips.
- Easy to clean (espeically Onyx). The material is water resistant and stays clean … and is also easy to clean for big stains.
- Easy to install. We have taken this car seat in and out of our car a ton for airplane trips, car washes, etc. It goes back in easily and tightly in about 1 minute with the latch installation.
- Great size! We started our daughter in this seat when she was 18 lbs and rear facing. At almost 40 lbs, it is still working great. It fits easily in both of our cars (one small, one large) with room for 3 car seats across if needed. It also travels well and fits in the seat on the airplane. We are considering the Britax Marathon, the Britax Frontier, and the Graco 3-in-1 for our next seat, and all are very large.
Con:
- My only complaint is that this seat only goes to 40 lbs. I would have loved one that could carry me further, even if only another 5-10 lbs.
