SafeGuard Go Hybrid Booster – Tan (F101859)

Filed With: Baby Product Reviews

The SafeGuard Go Hybrid Booster blends the portability of a backless booster with the unmatched safety of a 5 point harness, restraining children from the time they graduate to a forward facing seat up to 60 lbs. When the child outgrows the harness, the seat easily converts to a LATCH-equipped, belt-positioning backless booster up to 100 lbs. Because it is made by SafeGuard, parents can rest assured that the crash test performance of the SafeGuard Go far surpasses government standards for child car seats.

Lightweight and compact, the seat features a one-of-a-kind flexible back that secures to the vehicle top tether anchor while in use and allows the seat to fold easily away for transport. In harness mode, the sliding shoulder height adjusters, three buckle positions and adjustable headrest provide an easy custom fit for the child, without rethreading of the harness. The SafeGuard Go installs in less than a minute with LATCH.

1 Stars we have had this carseat for 2.5 years now. we have 4 kids, 4 years and under. this carseat has been ok but just today one of the headrest pieces just broke off. now there is a sharp piece of plastic sticking out of the side. seems to me if it breaks that easy how is it going to hold up in a side impact crash? our 4 year old always seems like she is slouching in it too. its also very difficult to adjust the harness when trying to get the child strapped in. i think the full frame toddler seats with the 5 point harness is a much better option. of course we were having our 3rd and this seat was the only one that would fit at the time with two other full size carseats in the back of our toyota camry. if you’re limited on space they do make more compact seats now.

5 Stars We are very happy with the purchase of this booster seat. Our daughter loves it too. She says it is very comfortable. It is not bulky like her other seat and she thinks the arm rests are cool. Our daughter is right at 40lbs so too big for her convertable car seat and everything I read showed the benefits of staying with a 5pt harness. I’m so happy she can comfortably ride in this seat until 60lbs with the 5pt harness and then we can switch the seat to a regular booster. A great seat to grow with. My husband said the install was very easy.

5 Stars I ordered 2 of these Safeguard hybrid car seats for my Honda CRV. I have had 2 regular car seats for my granddaughters (ages 2 and 4) and was tired of how big and bulky they were and how hard it was to get them in and out. The Safeguard seats are super easy to install, are much less bulky, and have been declared “beautiful” by granddaughter #1. They attach very securely and it is easy to adjust the harnesses to fit with or without winter coats. Both girls said they were comfortable and I’m happy with the great safety ratings as well. I could not be happier.

4 Stars My son loves sitting in it. The main reason I bought this is because it’s one of the very few booster seats that have BOTH 5-point harness and latch. I want my son to be as safe as possible in a car. Installation took me 5 minutes. I was pleased to find out it was very light compared to the Britax Marathon that we had.

The only downside is the headrest won’t go up higher than the current position it is in. It sometimes slides down a little and I have to constantly push it up to make sure it stays up. Overrall, it’s a great car seat!

5 Stars We have 2 of these car seats and have had them for about a year and a half. Our daughter is 3 1/2 and currently is 41″ tall. One goes in the 05 Ford Explorer and one in the new 08 Infiniti G37S. The seat fits great in both vehicles. It MUST have either a top tether or the anchor on the floor in order for the 5 point harness part to work. It installs so easy & quick I thought I did it wrong at first. We love the fact that our daughter has the safety of a 5 point harness for up to 60 pounds. I wish I would of known about this car seat before, I could have skipped the whole car seat after the infant carrier. We recently went on a trip to Michigan and took the car seat with us. It folded quickly and easily into it’s bag and wasn’t damaged during our flights. Another great feature, it was light. Her daddy didn’t go with us on this trip so it was only her and I. I had no trouble caring this on my shoulder with the shoulder strap and rolling our large suitcase. The best thing about the whole thing is that I know Reagan is safe!

5 Stars What a great car seat. Easy to use and it is quite comfortable. You must have a latch for the head rest as the product is not in a shell but that is what makes it unique and easy to move around from car to car. The straps are easy to adjust for changes in the childs’ clothing ie; winter coats vs summer t shirts. I ended up buying two. It is also rated one of the top booster seats and I can use it as a 5 point harness until he reaches 60 lbs.

5 Stars I ordered this “hybrid booster” for my 3 year-old since her little sister had outgrown her infant carrier and needed to move up a seat. I am so thrilled with this purchase – we travel often by plane and this seat weighs all of NINE pounds! It even comes in a travel bag. It was very easy to install and adjust to fit her – she’s on the small side, so we had to move the headrest down to it’s lowest point, but it works fine and will last her all the way until she can use a real seatbelt. I did read reviews that it’s not very comfy and I suppose compared to the ultra cushy Britax she was in before it may not be. However, I don’t really WANT my 3 year old falling asleep in the car anyway when it’s not nap time, so this does not bother me in the least and she actually loves the new found room that she has. If we go on a long road trip – I think just giving her an extra pillow or blanket would accommodate enough for a nap. Her first comment when she got in was “now I can stretch!” – she can now reach the center armrest cupholders (this seat does not have one attached – again, fine with me since that just adds to bulk). As soon as the baby is big enough, we are likely to purchase another one!

5 Stars I bought one of these for my oldest daughter and just moved my #2 into this one. They are great. They keep them in the 5 point harness much longer, keeping them safer much longer. We take long driving trips quite often and they have never complained about comfort. The straps adjust very easily and installation is a breeze…. though you must have a car with “latch system”.

5 Stars I have a sedan, three kids, and two of them are in carseats. The previous seats we had left no room for our oldest son to comfortably and safely sit in the backseat.

These carseats are perfect for families short on space. They fit exactly in the seat with no overflow. I have one seat in the middle of the backseat and one near a door. The entire third seat is empty.

The seats took less than 5 minutes to install properly. A top latching tether hook is needed as well as a headrest. Make sure your vehicle has this before purchasing the seats because they will not work properly without it.

These seats are an excellent idea for front facing safety. The back has no form to it. When not in use, it flops over. When placed into the car, the back of the seat forms to fit the car. Brilliant.

The seats also fold up easily and come with a carrying pouch for quick transport.

Although the padding isn’t as plush as the Britex seats that we had, the padding is comfortable. The straps look more comfortable as well. The headrest of the seat easily adjusts so that the child’s head is protected no matter their height.

These seats offer 5-point harness security for children up to 60-pounds. It can then be used as a booster for children up to 100 pounds.

My only complaint is that it takes some time to learn to adjust the belts because the harness system is different than any seat I’ve had experience with. The learning curve is not long though.

For $199 a seat, this model allows value and versitility for the money. I have priced these from different retailers and $199 with free shipping is as good as it gets.

5 Stars This is a great seat. Easy to install and uninstall which is why we bought it.

5 Stars I bought this seat to install in my 2007 Mustang and it was a perfect fit. Mustang rear seats are very deep and narrow so normal baby seats didn’t fit, but this one is just the right size.

Seat is very well made and my 4 year old daughter loves it.

It’s very light and folds easily to store in its included bag. Bottom is rounded and soft so it won’t scratch your seat. Seat is also very light.

Attaches directly to LATCH equipped cars and back is removeable so bottom can be used as a booster cushion later on.

5 Stars I have twin 3 year olds and this booster is the best. In my state we are not suppose to use a true booster seat until age 4 but I needed something that could travel easily on a plane for a vacation I took by myself with the twins and my 1 year old. I needed to be able to carry 3 car seats, push a stroller, manage twins, and keep up with the luggage. These seats helped out alot. Plus so easy to install. I can do it. My husband usually puts the car seats in for me but these are easy to do. I would not use them for kids younger than 3 as they don’t have the side support but these are NOT convertible car seats. They are boosters with a 5 point seat belt system. I have read that 5 point systems are safer as the boosters that use the car staps allow for the kids to slip out if the car is rolled in a reck. My boys love them and have not made any complaints about them. My one complaint is that if the boys fall asleep, their necks are drawn forward where their chins are touching their chests. It looks very uncomfortable.
My husband gives them 2 thumbs up for ease of installing because of the push button release latches that clip on the car latch system.
Oh- another negative is that it only uses a latch system so if your car is older and does not have a latch system then you are out of luck on using them. It is no big deal unless your car is old. You also can’t use them on an airplane.

    Highly recommend this product.

3 Stars After diligent and thorough research of the competition, and after reading several positive reviews, we recently bought this booster seat for our enormous 2 1/2 year old who’s growing out of his convertible car seat (Britax Marathon, though he’s within its height/weight limit). He’s 40 1/2″ tall and weighs in at 36 lbs.

He’s been in the Safeguard Go several times now, and each time he’s complained of being uncomfortable. He’s not typically picky and has comfortably sat in a variety of seats (e.g., Triple Play Sit n’ Stroll, a friend’s Recaro Booster, etc.), for up to 8 hours, in the past.

In the Safeguard Go, the main discomfort seems to come from the bare, unpadded side buckles that dig into the outside of each thigh. It also seems that he can’t get a comfortable upright position without slouching down far enough to cause the crotch buckle to dig into him. I’d say we did all we could to properly adjust the seat to fit him. There’s certainly little impact protection, and the seat generally seems a little flimsy (may be due to its portable nature).

While I think this is probably an acceptable seat for older children, a littler one, who isn’t quite able to sit upright and properly for an extended period of time can quickly get very uncomfortable.

Market trends seems to be responding to experts’ advice that kids remain in 5-point harness as long as possible. This likely means that more and more hybrid (5-point harness transferable to adult seat belt) boosters will soon be emerging on the market, offering a 5 point harness with higher height and weight limits with increased safety and comfort features, similar to the Britax Frontier, coming out in May 2008.

I look for thoughtful care and consideration in the manufacturing of a product. I regret to report that a few important elements were overlooked in manufacturing the Safeguard Go.

5 Stars We purchased the Safeguard Go for a trip to Central America last summer with our 3 year-old daughter. It was sooo easy to carry the seat on the plane and through immigration in the country we went to. She is big for her age and was comfortably asleep in the seat soon after we got off the plane and into the rental. We are currently using it as our main car seat and it works well. Also, it’s very easy to install, light-weight and easy to clean.
